Mahina Riviera

Mahina Riviera
We are big fans of Clement’s Mahina Coco Liqueur. Unlike coconut-flavored rums, this liqueur is naturally flavor by infusing rhum agricole with fresh coconut. It is sweetened, but it retains some of the fresh, vegetal notes of the rhum for a unique flavor. It’s an excellent mixing liqueur, especially if you have a few bottles of rhum agricole on hand to mix with it. The Mahina Riviera is one of our current favorite creations. It cocktail is really refreshing – exactly the kind of drink if you were standing on the French – French Caribbean, of course – Riviera enjoying an amazing beach breeze and sea view.

The drink has a great coconut flavor without bring overly sweet, which is a pleasant surprise when you are used to coconut drinks that are ultra-creamy. A combination of lemon and lime brighten the drink without overpowering the coconut, and a hint of cinnamon gives it a lovely aroma. This isn’t a huge drink, nor is it particularly strong, so it is a perfect afternoon sipper. It can also be doubled for a larger drink, however you might want to pick up an extra bottle of the coconut liqueur if you are going to be serving a crowd, as people will definitely want a second round.

If you want to make a big impact when you serve this, crack open a fresh coconut, fill it with ice and top it with the mixed cocktail. If you don’t have a fresh coconut, a coconut mug will make a great stand-in.

So I am having a hard time finding clement mahina coco where I am. Until I can get some shipped, I was wondering if you had any replacement suggestions, or if this is truly one of a kind?

      Madison,

Unfortunately, there aren’t any great substitutes for the Clement Mahina Coco. What I would recommend in this case is to substitute 1 oz rhum agricole (so, doubling the rhum already called for in the drink) and 1 oz coconut rum. Most coconut rums are sweetened and do have a pleasant coconut flavor, so that will give you a very similar result in this drink while you wait for the Mahina! Hope that helps!
